From the beginning of 2024 until the end of this July, a total of around 25,000 people have used the services offered by these renovated and modernised offices at the Department for Industrial and Employment Relations, a government statement said.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue, Andy Ellul, visited these offices that had works done in them to provide a better working environment for employees, thus helping them carry out their work more effectively while offering optimal service to the general public.

During this visit, it was explained that some 25,000 persons used the services offered here. The same department reportedly received around 16,000 phone calls and approximately 8,500 emails during this time span.

During this same period, DIER had 689 requests for investigation from workers. The majority of these requests came from employees still working in the same workplace; 37% of these are general investigations, while the rest are cases where a worker has filed a report about a company which they no longer work with.

Reportedly, 84 licences have been granted for work/temping agencies, while another 90 licences are still being processed.

Parliamentary Secretary Ellul praised the work done in this renovation project and stressed that this will not only improve the working environment for DIER employees, but also the service they provide to the public.

“DIER plays a central role to industrial relations and employment in Malta, and these modernised facilities will help ensure that officials have the best tools and conditions to carry out their duties, specifically where enforcement comes in,” said Parliamentary Secretary Ellul, while thanking the Department’s workers for their dedication.
