A man was critically injured on Sunday in a diving accident in Comino, the police said Monday.

The police said that the 44-year-old Polish man jumped off a boat with a 12-year-old boy, and the two ended up on each other.

The man was given first assistance from members of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps and was later transported to Mgarr Harbour, from where he was taken to Gozo Hospital.

The police said that he was later transported to Mater Dei Hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Simone Grech is leading an inquiry.
