A man has been arrested and will be charged with allegedly trafficking foreign workers into the country after a joint investigation between the police and JobsPlus.

The man – a 67-year-old from Dingli – allegedly applied to import, and in fact did import, a number of prospective foreign workers from third countries which was far higher that the number of workers that he actually needed to operate his business.

He is alleged to have made false declarations to the authorities by saying that he needed this number of workers in order to operate three restaurants – however out of those restaurants, one was in the process of being shut down and the other had not opened yet.

The man is expected to be charged today before magistrate Monica Vella.  He will face charges of human trafficking, making false declarations, and exploitation amongst others.
