Quality education is a result

Quality education comes from investment and the great dedication shown by educators in their work, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Monday as he visited the San Miguel Resource Centre in Pembroke.

He added that after the “best agreement” was signed for educators, they will now have improved conditions and income. The Office of the Prime Minister said that Abela met with students at the Resource Centre and saw "the hard work that the workers carry out with the children".

Abela said that every child deserves to receive the best from the education sector, “and therefore the investment in our education system is widespread to reach everyone’s potential”.

The OPM said that as soon as the new sectoral agreement came into force, Resource Centres became known as schools. It continued that this is another step in favour of inclusion, as no distinction should be made between different schools, even if they provide different educational programs.

The San Miguel Resources Centre is one of five throughout the country, and has attending students with disabilities ranging from the ages of three to eleven, the OPM said. It continued that these students are given an educational experience based on a sensory curriculum, and that each student has a learning plan specific to them. The Resources Centre participates in Skolasajf, which the OPM said is currently attended by around 24 students.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Education Minister Clifton Grima.
