The Nationalist Party on Thursday asked Minister for Energy, Miriam Dalli, for more details on frequent occurrences of power cuts, mentioning in particular the fire on a cable which led to a complete black-out in Gozo last Tuesday.

In a statement, the PN said an explanation was needed on what caused the fire that led to power being lost in Gozo.

The PN said that Enemalta’s statement regarding the fire raise doubts rather than set the minds of consumers at rest regarding energy distribution in the country.

The PN said that it is unacceptable that the information about the operation of Enemalta is consistently being hidden. It pointed out that this week, Enemalta wasn’t reporting power cuts on the map of its portal, particularly when Gozo was experiencing a blackout.

It added that it is equally unacceptable that the consumers are expected to accept a “dry” statement from Enemalta regarding what happened on Tuesday.

The PN concluded in saying that Dalli must give this information immediately and, should she refrain, the PN will consider other steps.
