Inspire announces Stubbs Centre in Marsascala to support 5,000 disabled persons

The necessary preparations have begun for a new multimillion-euro project by Inspire, called the Stubbs Centre, which will help this association continue to better serve people with disabilities while providing new facilities and services.
This project was announced by the Inspire CEO, Antonello Gauci, in the presence of the Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering, Julia Farrugia Portelli, who was given details about this project.
The Stubbs Centre shall consist of accessible spaces equipped with the necessary technology to provide educational, recreational, therapeutic, and social learning opportunities. This centre will be offering a number of new programmes, such as one for independent living, a specialised daycare centre, programmes to help adults with disabilities to enter the world of work, as well as a respite centre. Existing programmes will also be expanded upon.
Inspire currently operates from Bulebel and Għajnsielem, Gozo. This voluntary organisation also offers a number of services and facilities from Marsascala, such as the use of a heated swimming pool, therapy through horses and other animals, multisensory rooms, among other therapeutic spaces that are currently being used by over 1,700 people of all ages.
Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli praised the work being committed by this organisation to aid the lives of many disabled people and their families.
“We want to continue to see top-level investment in the disability sector,” she said, “This is why, as a Government, we will not only continue to increase aid and schemes in favour of people with disabilities, but we will continue to offer our absolute support in favour of organisations like Inspire.”
Inspire Malta’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Antonello Gauci said that his organisation has reached important goals over the last year.
“It is of great satisfaction that through assistance and collaborations with different entities, including governmental, private, and other voluntary ones, Inspire can continue to move forward to offer more services with the aim of improving the quality of life of those who are benefitting from its work,” Gauci said.
Inspire’s Chief Services Officer, Laura Sue Armeni, emphasised the social impact that this project will have. She also stated how many more people will be directly supported through these new services and facilities. The association’s Chief Financial and Operations Officer, Giovanna Mirabile, explained that this project has been planned for many years and that it has now reached the stage of being carried out.
During this announcement, Inspire Malta also announced the date of its fundraising marathon entitled “Inspire Bżonnok.” This fundraising marathon will be broadcast on local television stations on 4 August 2024 from 11:00 till 23:00 with the purpose of raising funds for Stubbs Centre.
