Pro-Russian hackers target Italian ministries
Transport companies also hit; Meloni helps Zelensky say hackers
A new wave of hacker attacks claimed
by pro-Russian group Noname057(16) targeted the websites of
Italian ministries and institutions on Saturday morning.
The Distributed Denial of Service actions caused the temporary
suspension of services.
The websites attacked included those of the ministries of
foreign affairs, infrastructure and transport, stock-market
regulator Consob, the Carabinieri police, the Navy and Air
Force.
The sites of public transport companies such as Atac in Rome,
Amat in Palermo and Amt in Genoa were also targeted.
The same targets were hit by cyberattacks two weeks ago,
although this time the attacks were reported earlier in the
morning, at around 7 am.
Announcing the attacks that targeted Italian ministries and
institutions the hackers criticized Premier Giorgia Meloni on
Telegram.
"Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has confirmed the
complete and constant support to Ukraine at a meeting with
(Ukrainian President) Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to
Rome", they wrote, referring to the head of State's meeting with
Meloni on Thursday night.
"According to Meloni, Italy will help Ukraine defend its
interests and pursue a fair and long-lasting peace.
"Talks lasted about an hour and aimed at strengthening Kyiv's
position", they added.
"Italy should start by helping itself and, first of all, its
cybersecurity", the statement concluded.
The National Cybersecurity Agency is supporting activities to
recover systems and audit security gaps.
Zelensky held talks in Rome with Meloni on Thursday night and
with Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Friday morning.
