16-year-old says 'it could have been anyone'; victim critical
A 16-year-old boy who was arrested
last week on charges of attempted murder for attacking an
entrepreneur with a baseball bat in the Brianza town of Zesano
Maderno told investigators the victim wasn't his objective and
anyone could have been in his place, sources close to the probe
said Tuesday.
"Anyone else could have been in his place, it would have been
the same, he wasn't my target", said the teen, according to the
sources.
"I don't know why I did it", he also told investigators.
The teen attacked the 60-year-old businessman, a neighbour,
hitting him in the head 19 times with his bat until it broke,
according to investigative sources.
The man was hospitalized at the San Gerardo Hospital in Monza in
critical condition.
The teen's family called Carabinieri police after they saw
traces of blood on his clothes.
The 16-year-old was arrested last Wednesday on attempted murder
charges for the attack, which took place the previous day.
The boy, who has not got a history of psychiatric issues, was
taken to Milan's Beccaria juvenile prison.
