One dead, four injured after avalanche on Monte Rosa
Rescuers reach party despite bad weather conditions
One person is dead and four are
injured after an avalanche hit a group of eight climbers on the
Castore mountain in the Monte Rosa massif on Monday, the Aosta
Valley Alpine Rescue Service said.
The service said that injured people had been taken to hospital
in Aosta after managing to reach the party on foot - bad weather
conditions did not enable rescuers to get to the scene on the
avalanche by helicopter.
The deadly event comes after four mountaineers, two Italians and
two South Koreans, were reported missing on the Italian side of
Mont Blanc at the weekend.
The weather conditions have made it impossible for rescuers to
search for them so far.
