A Masterclass titled 'Iconic wines of Italy' took place in Tokyo Tuesday celebrating the best Italian wines in the Japanese capital, organised by the ICE Foreign Trade Agency and Vinitaly on the occasion of the world tour of Italian navy sailing and training ship the Amerigo Vespucci.
Attending the event were Matteo Zoppas, the president of Italian Trade Agency ICE, Federico Bricolo, the president of the Veronafiere complex that hosts the Vinitaly wine fair in Verona each April, Adolfo Rebughini, director general of Veronafiere, and Gianpaolo Bruno, director of ICE's Tokyo office.
"We are in the top Asian country for wine exports: some 200 million euros in value is exported, up on 2019 and slightly down on 2022," Zoppas told ANSA.
"As of today the exports are growing by a few percentage points, so there is a lot to be hopeful about.
"But above all we must continue to carry out that proselytism and that story-telling, that promotion that then leads the buyers, the importers, the distributors, but also all the restaurateurs to have a greater awareness of what the Italian products are.
"We are speaking of high-range wines, through the Masterclass, with very important sommeliers, with entities of weight, with Vinitaly that is coordinating things, that tell the story of the excellence of Italian wine in Tokyo.
"We are doing this with the Amerigo Vespucci which has opened a very important channel of communication, it is let's say a media highway that is helping us to take the message to Japanese operators even more strongly".
