World tennis anti-doping body ITIA said Tuesday that Jannik Sinner had been acquitted August 15 of taking a banned steroid in April due to "unconscious intake" of the substance but that the sentence was appealable by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) as well as by the Italian ant-doping agency NADO.
World number one Sinner, 23, was twice subjected to doping tests that revealed a positive result for a metabolite of Clostebol, eight days apart, said ITIA the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
The decision of an independent court to find Australian Open champ Sinner innocent was taken on 15 August, and "is appealable by WADA and NADO." Sinner reportedly settled the loss of prize money and 400 points won at Indian Wells in April, ITIA said.
