New Ireland weather warning issued for 15-hour event as Met Eireann says cold snap isn't over yet
Ireland is thawing out after a brutal deep freeze, but the cold snap isn’t over yet. Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for a 15-hour stretch, with visibility set to plunge from 6pm to 9am.
Ireland is slowly emerging from a week-long deep freeze, with a dramatic thaw set to sweep the country in the coming days - but the cold snap isn't over just yet.
While temperatures are expected to be milder today - ranging from 4C to 8C - Met Eireann has issued a new weather warning for potentially hazardous conditions tonight and tomorrow morning.
A Status Yellow fog warning has been issued for the entire county from 6pm until 9am. The 15-hour event warns that foggy conditions "will lead to impaired visibility", especially during the night and early hours. Drivers are advised to take extra care on the road, as the fog may cause difficult conditions.
Tonight, temperatures are set to drop as low as -1C, but the thaw will gain momentum tomorrow evening, with milder air pushing temperatures up to an unseasonable 11C after dark. This significant change in weather conditions should bring some relief to those recovering from days of snow, frost and subzero temperatures.
