We've all fancied ourselves a bit of a wine expert, swirling and sniffing our way through a glass, thinking we've nailed the art of wine tasting. But hold your horses before you declare yourself a sommelier – the experts at tabl.com have revealed the tricks to truly savour your vino.

They've dished out top tips on everything from choosing the right glass to nailing the perfect serving temperature, ensuring every sip is nothing short of sublime. Caroline Lips from tabl.com shared: "Drinking wine should be an enjoyable experience so it's a shame when you come to have a sip and you're met with a harsh or dull taste. That's why it is important to know how to store, serve and drink your wine properly."

She added that every drop deserves more than a plastic cup and by following these five simple steps, your palate will be eternally grateful.

First up, getting the temperature right is crucial for that perfect taste. Caroline advised: "White and rosé wine should be kept in the fridge but not served too cold as drinking it too chilled can mask the crisp and fruity flavours."

She recommends that white wines are best served at 7-13C, while reds should be stored at room temperature but given a slight chill before serving, reports the Mirror.

Caroline explained: "Red wine should be stored at room temperature but chilled slightly before serving. Sometimes when it's warmed too much the reaction of the complex chemicals in the drink can happen quicker, which can mess up the flavour and result in a loss of its freshness.

"Taking white or rosé wine out of the fridge 20 minutes before serving and allowing it to sit can help you reach the optimal serving temperature. Just as placing red wine in the fridge 20 minutes before you drink it can make for the perfect glass of vino."

Drinking wine the right way isn’t about looking fancy, it’s about giving that beautiful bottle the respect it deserves

The wrong shape glass could wreak havoc on your wine experience. Most of us are guilty of just grabbing the nearest cuppa or mug for our vino, but that's a no-no according to experts.

The trick with red is going for a glass with plenty of elbow room – a wide bowl – so that the wine gets the chance to breath, enhancing the lush flavours and scent. For your whites and rosés, aim for a more slender glass to keep them cool, crisp, and delivering that bouquet straight up your schnoz.

And there's a bit of etiquette when it comes to handling your glass. Sure, it's not about looking dead posh, but rather about avoiding your hands warming up the plonk.

Experts recommend holding the glass by the stem as it avoids smudging the glass and messing with the taste.

So, next time, steer clear of the glass if you don't want fingerprints, and more importantly, if you want your wine tasting just right.

Mastering the art of the pour might seem straightforward, but there's more to it than meets the eye.

The connoisseurs advise: "The proper way to pour wine is to hold the bottle by the punt (the indent at the bottom) or the bottom of the bottle, keep the glass on the table and let it fall down the side of the glass to avoid any splashes."

The secret to a flawless glass of red isn't just in the pouring; it's also about patience.

Wine buffs suggest: Before you serve, make sure to uncork the bottle roughly 30 minutes to an hour beforehand. This crucial step allows the wine to breathe, enhancing its full spectrum of scents and softening any sharp edges.
