Armed gardai carried out a series of raids on properties in Cork city on Friday as part of an ongoing investigation into violent disorder incidents and related criminal activities.

Gardaí conducted a search and arrest operation in the early hours of this morning, during which five individuals - males ranging from late teens to early twenties - were arrested.

One man has since been charged and is due to appear before Cork District Court on Friday afternoon.

The operation involved gardaí from the Cork City Division assisted by the Armed Support Unit. They carried out searches at four residential properties in Cork over the course of the operation.

A large quantity of weapons was recovered during the searches, which were conducted in direct response to concerns over a series of incidents that have shocked communities on the northside of the city in recent days.

According to Cork Beo, the search operation was carried out by gardai targeting groups involved in recent disturbances linked to a long-running feud between rival groups based on the northside of Cork City.

A Garda spokesperson said in a statement that the "investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow."
