Woman arrested over hit and run that left man fighting for his life 'after bringing car in for repairs'
Sources have told the Irish Mirror a car body repair business became suspicious after the woman, who is in her 30s, brought her car in for repairs
Gardaí arrested a woman over a hit and run that left a man fighting for his life – after she brought her car to be repaired, it has emerged.
The Irish Mirror has confirmed that the woman was arrested on Thursday morning as part of the probe into Monday’s smash in Dromiskin, Co Louth in which a cyclist was seriously injured after officers were contacted by a car body repair shop.
Sources have told us the business became suspicious after the woman, who is in her 30s, brought her car in for repairs. It’s understood there was significant damage to the bodywork of the vehicle – and that prompted staff to contact Gardaí. As part of the probe, officers seized the car - and it is now being technically examined.
The woman was arrested on Thursday morning and can be held for up to 24 hours. The man is still critically ill in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda following the incident.
The man, who is in his 40s, is believed to be from north Louth and is active in the community – where he is well known and respected.
Gardaí confirmed the arrest on Thursday morning. A spokesman said: “Gardaí have arrested a woman in her 30s in connection with a hit-and-run collision that occurred near Whitehouse Cross, Dromiskin, Co. Louth on Monday 6th January, 2025.
“At approximately 6.25pm, Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a collision, involving a vehicle and a cyclist, on the R132 in Dromiskin, Co. Louth. The cyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for serious injuries. He remains in a critical condition.
“A woman was arrested this morning and is being detained at a Garda Station in the Lough-Cavan-Monaghan Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Gardaí continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage of the incident from 6.15pm to 6.45pm or were travelling on the Old Dublin Road between Castlebellingham and Dundalk are also urged to contact Gardaí.
