Army bomb squad called in and

Gardaí have put a cordon in place on a road in South Dublin and called in the army bomb squad after they were alerted to a device in a premises.

Authorities were alerted to a device at a premises on Elgin Road, Dublin 4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers quickly put a cordon in place and the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded to a request for assistance.

A garda spokeswoman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí have been alerted to a device at a premises on the Elgin Road, Dublin 4 earlier this afternoon, Wednesday, 8 January.

"A cordon has been put in place and the services of the army EOD team requested. No further information is available at this time."

The Defence Forces were unable to comment on ongoing operations for security reasons.

A spokesperson for the Defence Forces told the Irish Mirror: “The Defence Forces do not comment on ongoing operations for reasons of operational security. We will be available for commentary once this operation has concluded.”
