Cyclist seriously injured in Louth hit-and-run as gardai make appeal for driver to come forward

A cyclist aged in his 40s was seriously injured in a hit-and-run near Dromiskin, Co Louth yesterday evening. Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

A cyclist has been seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Louth. The collision, involving the cyclist and a vehicle, happened near Whitehouse Cross on the R132 in Dromiskin around 6.25pm yesterday.

Emergency services and gardai attended the scene and the cyclist - a man aged in his 40s - was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The scene remains sealed off for a technical examination and diversions are in place.

The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene and gardai say the driver has yet to come forward.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a hit-and-run road traffic collision which occurred near Whitehouse Cross, Dromiskin, Co. Louth yesterday, Monday 6th January 2025. At approximately 6.25pm Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a collision, involving a vehicle and a cyclist, on the R132 in Dromiskin, Co. Louth.

"The cyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for serious injuries. The vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene and the driver has yet to come forward.

"The scene remains closed pending a technical examination and local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

"In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage of the incident from 6.15pm to 6.45pm or were travelling on the Old Dublin Road between Castlebellingham and Dundalk are also urged to contact Gardaí."
