WD-40 users are 'today years old' after learning what name actually means
WD-40 is useful for many household tasks, from lubricating hinges to preventing rust on metal surfaces. But have you ever wondered what the name actually stands for?
In many Irish homes, you’ll likely find a can of WD-40 tucked away in a cupboard or garage, ready to tackle everything from squeaky hinges to rusted tools.
It's the go-to solution for a variety of household tasks - whether it's lubricating doors, cleaning greasy engines or preventing rust on metal surfaces. But despite its popularity, have you ever wondered what the "WD" in WD-40 actually stands for?
It seems that many people, including one TikTok user, are just now discovering the answer. In a viral video, @enterviewteev shared his surprise with his 117,000 followers at learning that "WD" stands for "Water Dispersal," explaining that he had no idea despite using the product for years.
He said in his caption: "I bet over 90% of my followers had no idea," as he claimed he was "today years old" after discovering what the "WD" stands for, Mirror UK reports.

In the video, he said: "Please don't come in the comment section for this video and act like you already knew this. I'll be doing videos. A lot of y'all be acting like some of the videos I'm doing be common knowledge when all actually you guys are going on Google looking the info up and they come back to the comment section like it's common knowledge like you something you already knew.
"And for this video I know a lot of you didn't know about this. WD40. The WD and WD-40 stands for water dispersal. Who knew that the WD and WD-40 stood for water dispersal? Nobody even thinks about those academics when they using WD-40.
"I never even, never ever thought about WD-40. What does WD stand for? We don't think about those things. So do not comment in comments and act like you've been doing that. Some people might have known. Like if you are mechanic or something you might have known. But don't come here as a hairdresser say you already knew what WD40 was, or a cleric or assistant or something like saying you already knew what this would stand for. The WD and WD-40 stands for water dispersal. Appreciate y'all. Have a good day. Salute."
The revelation sparked dozens of comments from viewers who admitted they never knew the meaning either. One person said, "Didn't know that all these years, never even thought about it," while another commented, "Use it a lot, didn't know that. Taught me something."
For others, especially those in technical fields like mechanics, the knowledge was old news. But for many, it was a lightbulb moment.
