A brutally honest teacher has sparked a debate online after sharing the Christmas gifts she would rather not receive from well-meaning parents.

With most schools in Ireland set to break for Christmas next Friday, December 20, many parents are preparing to show their appreciation with presents for the child's teacher. While not obligatory, it's a common gesture of thanks for the dedication and care teachers provide throughout the year.

From handmade cards to chocolates, candles and even personalised items, teachers often end up driving home with a boot-full of presents. But for one US primary school teacher, there are three specific gifts she would prefer not to get.

In a viral TikTok video, Natalie - who posts as @primaryfocus - shares her unfiltered opinion on the gifts teachers secretly dislike. However, her blunt honesty has drawn mixed reactions, with some calling her "ungrateful".

Natalie said: "If you've been in the classroom long enough you will have gotten one of these 'gifts' that's not quite the blessing you hoped for. Here's three gifts that teachers don't want. Number one - anything in a Victoria Secret bag. I don't care that you didn't get them underwear that lotion smells bad and now you have a Victoria's Secret bag on your desk. It's just awkward."

Next, she mentioned sweet treats for the entire class. The North Carolina woman warned: "Listen, it's cool that you want to get everybody donuts but you need to ask ahead when and if the teacher is OK with that, because what it is for us is a giant sugar high from all of our kids and then the sugar crash. It's just way too much sugar, especially for the little guys."

Lastly, she addressed a more personal - and uncomfortable - issue, saying: "They don’t want your advances. I’ve had dads try to hit on me over the years, and it’s uncomfortable. Remember, we have to work together all year. Maybe just try online dating instead."

While some viewers appreciated her honesty, others were less than impressed, accusing her of being ungrateful. One person said: "Reason why I don't give teachers c**p." Another wrote: "My god, just shut up. I hope your students' parents get you Jack s**t now. Ungrateful."

A third added: "So negative, be grateful they got anything." One other wrote: "With ungrateful teachers like you I'd rather not give anything to any teachers." Another who claimed to be a teacher said: "As a preschool teacher, it's disappointing you think this way. I hope your kids don't get you s**t."

Someone else said: "I agree with this video."

Another user suggested if parents get sweet treats for the class, to hand them out before they go home. They said: "That's why you pass the treats out right before dismissal."
