'A pure gentleman' - Tributes

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a much-loved father-of-two who was found dead in Galway earlier this week.

Dominic Quinn was located on the Tuam Road in Galway city at approximately 5.15am on Tuesday (December 10) morning.

It's believed Mr Quinn was enjoying a drink in a local pub in the area before leaving for the evening. His body was found hours later by local bin men on the Tuam Road who then alerted the authorities. It is understood that Gardai are treating the death as a tragic accident.

A notice posted on RIP.ie stated that Mr Quinn sadly died "suddenly and unexpectedly" and that he will be "deeply mourned and sadly missed" by his wife Sally, son David and daughter Laura, and their partners Ciana and Daithí, along with his brothers and sisters John, Mary, Teresa, Ann, Bernie and Paul.

The death of Mr Quinn, who was the brother-in-law of former Galway TD and multi-ministry holder Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, has left the local community in shock, with friends and family describing him as 'a pure gentleman' who 'was much loved and respected by all' in emotional tributes shared online.

"So sorry to hear of Dominic’s passing. Great memories of Dominic, a very talented soccer player with Athenry Road/Tubberjarlath outstanding many times against West of the Gates. Always a pleasure to meet up with Dominic. Dominic was one of natures gentlemen & will be sadly missed by all of us," said one person.

"Sincere sympathy to Sally, David and Laura and to all the extended Quinn and Holian families on the tragic loss of your beloved Dominic. I was privileged to have not only known Dominic but to have worked with him for the past number of years and to have learned from his knowledge and wisdom," said another.

They added: "Dominic was always so obliging and his friendly spirit and his warm smile will never be forgotten. We had many a great day working together and always had a bit of banter when Corofin and Tuam would meet in the championship. Dominic thought the world of his family and was so proud of each one of you. He absolutely adored all his grandchildren and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for any of you. We have no words to soothe the heartache and pain of your tragic loss, but we hope that the memories shared and support of those around you will comfort you in the difficult days ahead. Rest easy Dominic, we will miss you very much."

A third mourner said: "Condolences to his wife and Family and all the Quinn Family. Always found Dominic to be a True Gentleman...great sense of humour and a pleasure to be around...May he rest peacefully in Heaven."

While a fourth said: "Adam, Emma, Alex and Casey, ye were so lucky to have such a lovely Grandad who loved ye so much. Remember all the fun things ye did together, and all the lovely hugs and laughs ye shared with Grandad. Adam and Emma as Alex and Casey get older ye can tell them lots of stories ye have about fun times ye shared with Grandad. I know its so sad that he had to leave ye, but he will be a guardian angel in heaven watching over ye, and he will always be in your hearts. Sending big hugs to ye all."

Mr Quinn's funeral mass is due to be held at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Tuam on Saturday morning (December 14).
