Dundalk FC update as club not yet awarded licence for 2025 League of Ireland season
The Lilywhites were relegated from the Premier Division for the first time since 2008 last month
Dundalk FC have not yet been awarded a licence for the 2025 League of Ireland First Division season, however the club reports "significant progress" has been made in trying to acquire one.
The Lilywhites were relegated from the Premier Division for the first time since 2008 - and for only the third time in their history - last month following a 2-0 defeat at home to Derry City.
It came amid huge financial issues off the field and the club's future remains unclear after the FAI announced they were not awarded a licence for the 2025 season on Wednesday. All other clubs in the Premier and First Divisions received licences for the new campaign.

However, Dundalk are hopeful they will be approved for a licence once their application is completed within the coming days, with the FAI stating a further update will be given next week.
Dundalk FC said in a statement: "Dundalk FC can confirm that significant progress for Club Licensing 2025 has been made working with our partners in the FAI.
"It was always widely understood that the process this time around would be difficult. Player contracts, financials, and other legacy issues all exist from prior ownership and must be audited so that accurate compliance reporting can be delivered to the FAI.
"The FAI and the current directors of Dundalk FC are ensuring and pursuing a full rigorous application which will now take a few days to complete, resulting in licence approval."
The FAI commented: "Dundalk FC are still engaged in the Club Licensing process. A further update will be issued next week."
