Status Yellow weather warning issued for most of Ireland as temperatures drop to below freezing
The warning will come into effect at 4pm this afternoon and will remain valid until 6am on Thursday morning
A Status Yellow fog warning has been issued for more than half the country as many areas will be impacted by freezing fog with the plunge in temperatures.
Met Eireann has issued the weather warning for the counties of Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, as well as all of Connacht.
The latest update from the national forecaster warns of "patches of fog and freezing fog, thickening this evening and tonight" in the affected regions. The warning will come into effect at 4pm this afternoon and will remain valid until 6am on Thursday morning.

This comes as temperatures are due to plummet to lows of -3C in the midlands overnight, with Munster escaping the coldest of the conditions.
The good news, however, is that Ireland is expected to avoid any major impacts of Storm Conall, which has been officially named by the Dutch weather service and will bring strong winds and heavy rain to the UK and the Netherlands.
Of today, a Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Cold today with frost and fog slow to clear. Fog will linger in parts of the midlands, leading to difficult travelling conditions. Otherwise, it will be a dry day with spells of sunshine and just the odd shower near northeast coasts. Highs of just 3 to 7 degrees, but colder where any fog lingers, in a light variable breeze.
"Cold tonight with widespread frost and some icy patches. Fog will develop once again, turning dense in some areas. Staying dry with clear spells for most but it will turn cloudier in the southwest later with patchy light rain developing near southwest coasts by morning. Lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees, but turning less cold in Munster with the arrival of the rain. Becoming breezier too with moderate to fresh southeast winds developing.
"Tomorrow morning, there will be some hazy sunshine in the north and east but it will be a cloudy and damp start in the south and west with outbreaks of rain. Rain and drizzle will spread across most of the country through the afternoon but rainfall totals will be small in the east and northeast. Highest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees in fresh and gusty southeast winds, strong on coasts."
