Paul O'Connell is the latest high profile coach to rule himself out of taking the Munster Head Coach role.

"No, I have no interest in it, certainly in the short-term anyway," said O'Connell, speaking for the first time since the job became vacant. "I just hope they get the right man.

He joins Ronan O'Gara, All Blacks assistant Jason Holland and Springbok assistant Jerry Flannery in distancing themselves from a return to the club. Felix Jones and Declan Kidney have remained silent on the subject of the Munster vacancy.

Meanwhile, yesterday, bookies favourite Mike Prendergast and Denis Leamy both signed two-year extensions to remain as Attack Coach and Defence Coach respectively as rumours persist Munster have a 'big' name, under which both would be happy to work, in the pipeline.

Jones is currently on 15 months 'gardening leave' following leaving the England set-up, a particularly long period of time albeit designed to keep him away from potential England opposition.

There is a suggestion this timeframe would not apply to Munster as they are a club.

Kidney, despite vociferous support from former Munster great Donncha O'Callaghan appeared to have been ruled out by Ian Costello last October .

Munster's Head of Operations said the club were not going down the road of appointing a Director of Rugby.
