Sir Elton John shares heartbreaking health update after debilitating infection
Sir Elton John, 77, has opened up on how a recent health issue has left him "stuck" and unable to see, which has impacted his ability to record music
Music legend Sir Elton John has opened up about the severe impact a recent infection has had on his vision - confessing he feels "stuck" as a result.
The iconic musician, aged 77, said the eye infection, diagnosed earlier this year, has stalled his music recording. Sir Elton continued: "It’s been a while since I’ve done anything, and well, I just have to get off my backside.
"I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France and it’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see, and my left eye is not the greatest.

"So there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but it’s... I’m kind of stuck at the moment, because I can do something like this (an interview), but going into the studio and recording, I don’t know, because I can’t see a lyric for a start."
Back in September, the singer told fans on Instagram he was "healing" following the eye infection but the recovery has slowed, he since added. He made the admission during an appearance on ABC News’ Good Morning America, on which he also discussed eventual plans to release an album with long-time collaborator Bernie Taupin.
The release date for this has been postponed due to Sir Elton's health challenges. Despite the setback, efforts are being made to improve his condition as he mentioned: "We’re taking initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on."
He reflected on the unfortunate timing, adding: "It’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen, and it kind of floored me. And I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, can’t watch anything."
This comes in the wake of Sir Elton's latest musical venture, a new track with American artist Brandi Carlile titled Never Too Lat, influenced by his brand-new Disney+ documentary bearing the same title.
His headline act at Glastonbury in 2023 was his final UK performance as part of his extensive 330-date Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which he concluded with an emotionally charged concert in Stockholm, Sweden. Sir Elton, who was honoured as a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour in a ceremony in November 2021, is renowned for hits such as Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting, I’m Still Standing, and Your Song. In 2019, Kingsman star Taron Egerton portrayed him in the biopic Rocketman.
