Gordon Ramsay makes feelings clear on Max Verstappen row after F1 star's sarcastic remark
Max Verstappen is currently celebrating a fourth Formula One world championship, but the Red Bull ace may still be unhappy with one punishment he received
Gordon Ramsay confessed he'd be in big trouble if he had to follow the same swearing rules as Max Verstappen.
Ramsay, known for his foul-mouthed rants, recently commented on Verstappen's punishment, which the FIA dealt out just months before the Flying Dutchman secured his fourth F1 world championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
But memories of the Singapore Grand Prix, where he was reprimanded for using the word "f***ed" during his press conference, are still fresh. For his rant, he was ordered to do a day of community service.
While he apologised for his language, Verstappen has since made it clear he is unhappy with the strict rules. Considering his comments, Ramsay would not want to operate under such discipline.
Reflecting on the incident, Ramsay, who uses the F-word a minute on his shows Hell's Kitchen and Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, joked that he'd be doing endless community service if he were an F1 driver.
When asked about Verstappen's punishment, he said: "I'd be f***ed. I'd be royally f***ed. Here's the thing. These guys, athletes, are driving in excess of 200 miles per hour.
"Within a split-second, as we have seen before, their lives could go in a heartbeat, so it's an industry language. They're at the top of the game, they're pulling three or four Gs going into breaking, accelerating. The odd word comes out, let it be, don't interfere, don't mummify it, keep it real."
Verstappen had a series of digs at the FIA during a sim session with Team Redline. When his fellow players asked if they were allowed to drop some fruity language in, he replied: "No! You'll get community service."
After dropping the F-bomb during the stream, his pals said: "Calm your language down a touch, please." When one of them joked: "The FIA are watching," Verstappen quickly retorted: "The FBI as well!"
Verstappen has little reason to swear now, though, after securing the championship. Overcome with emotion post-race, he gave a speech to his team on the radio.
He said: "Oh my God. What a season. Four times. Thanks to everyone. More difficult than last year. I thought it was impossible. But thanks to you guys... thanks again."
He later added: "It's been a long season. Of course, we started off amazing, it was almost like cruising but then we had a tough run. But as a team, we stuck together, constantly striving for improvement, and we made it over the finish line. I'm immensely proud of everyone and what they've achieved for me.
"And to be here as a four-time world champion is something I never dreamed possible. So right now, I'm just feeling relieved, in a way, but also incredibly proud."
