Mountjoy prisoner rushed to hospital after being slashed in stomach by fellow inmate
Gardai have now been called in to investigate the incident
A remand prisoner was attacked and stabbed during an incident in Mountjoy Prison yesterday.
It is understood he was rushed to hospital and treated for his injuries which are not life-threatening.
Prison sources said the victim was sliced across the stomach by another inmate in the unprovoked attack around lunchtime.

He was kept in hospital for several hours for treatment before being sent back to Mountjoy.
A prison source said: "He is out of danger and his injuries are not life threatening. He was attacked by a fellow with some sort of a blade who sliced him open."
The Gardai have now been called in to investigate the incident.
A spokesman for the Irish Prison Service said they do not comment on security or operational matters.
A number of prisoners have died following attacks on them in jail in recent years.
