Ellen DeGeneres flees the US to move to the UK after Donald Trump's election win
The former talk show host and her wife, Portia De Rossi, have already bought a home in the UK and are reportedly not planning to return to the US
Ellen DeGeneres has decided to flee the US to move to the UK following Donald Trump's election win. The 66-year-old made the move with her wife, Portia de Rossi, after several celebrities expressed a desire to leave due to their disagreements with Trump's policies.
Ellen and Portia are said to have chosen rural England as their new home and have decided to settle in the picturesque Cotswolds, saying they 'won't be looking back'.
The pair are said to have listed their Montecito residence - where they count Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as neighbours - up for sale. They will relocate to a stunning Cotswolds village, located roughly two hours west of London. Just last week, the pair were seen at Jeremy Clarkson's pub in the Cotswolds.
The Sun reported that the couple had acquired a property in the region, meaning their move took place well before the 2024 election.

Earlier this month, several celebrities vowed that if Trump won the election and became president for the second time, they would move. In the run-up to the election, many stars - including Cardi B, Lili Reinhart and Christina Applegate - hit out at Trump supporters for their beliefs.
"Please unfollow me if you voted against female rights. Against disability rights. Yeah that. Unfollow me because what you did is unreal. Don’t want followers like this," Christina said on X ( Twitter ). She also said: "I apologize. I’m still reeling and sobbing. But I’m not angry anymore."
It has been said that Ugly Betty and Barbie icon America Ferrera has been looking to move to the UK and is 'sick' that Trump has become President again. "America is sick that Donald Trump is President again," an insider claimed. "She is devastated that Kamala lost. She thought the country she lived in was better than that."
Many other stars discussed leaving the US, including Minnie Driver, who told The Times of London in July that she came back to the UK after almost 30 years of living in Los Angeles.
She said over the summer that she would find it difficult returning to the US if Trump was re-elected. "If I lived in a red [Republican] state, no, I couldn’t [return]. But living in California, you are somewhat insulated," she explained. "But do you want to go and live in a bubble? Do you run away from the fire or do you go back and help?"
Whoopi Goldberg once said she would leave if Trump became president for the first time. She said on The View in 2016: "He's the president. I'm still not going to say his name - that's not going to change." During his first presidential campaign, she said on the show: "Maybe it's time for me to move, you know. I can afford to go."
Although she later clarified she had no intention of leaving the country, Trump shared a meme of her and said online: "Canada doesn't want you Whoopi, NOBODY DOES!!!" In 2023, Cher told The Guardian that she dealt with health issues because of his first presidency term and said she was determined to leave the country if 'he gets in'.
