Fine Gael will promise to extend GP care for all children under 18 and “make healthcare more affordable for all citizens”.

The party will launch its manifesto in Tipperary this Sunday morning with Taoiseach Simon Harris and Ministers Helen McEntee and Paschal Donohoe outlining what the party would do if it returned to government for another five-year term.

If Fine Gael is returned to government, it will be the party’s fourth term in charge of the country. The Irish Mirror understands that Mr Harris’ party will make significant promises on healthcare in its manifesto.

This includes expanding free GP care for children and young people under 18. Free GP care is currently available to children aged seven and younger. Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin told the Irish Mirror earlier this week that his party would extend free GP care to children under 12 years if elected again.

Elsewhere in its manifesto, Fine Gael will also state its intention to “reduce the monthly cost of prescription drugs”. This will include lowering the maximum monthly cost of prescription drugs and medicines to €50 under the Drug Payment Scheme and abolishing prescription charges. The Drug Payment Scheme is currently set at €80 per month.

It will also extend free contraception to all women over the age of 35 and provide free Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to “those who need it”.

Fine Gael will also vow to increase medical card income limits in a “progressive way” to expand eligibility to more individuals and families. Party sources told the Irish Mirror that these initiatives “will help to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare, ensuring that all citizens can access the care they need without facing prohibitive costs”.

Fine Gael will become the fourth party to unveil its general election manifesto. Fianna Fáil were the first to launch theirs on Monday, followed by the Green Party on Tuesday and People Before Profit on Thursday. The Labour Party will also release its manifesto in Dublin this Sunday lunchtime.
