Mike Tyson has revealed that his wife has informed the boxing icon that he doesn't need to fight YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

The clash between the two boxing stars will take on Friday night, with the fight taking place in front of up to 80,000 fans at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Both Tyson and Paul were due to go glove-to-glove earlier this year, however, 'Iron Mike' was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering an ulcer flare up on a flight.

Tyson - who will be 58 when he steps foot inside the ring - hasn't fought a professional contest since losing to former Irish heavyweight boxer Kevin McBride back in 2005. His last win inside the squared-circle came against Clifford Etienne in 2003. He did, however, take on fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition showdown four years ago.

As for Paul, 'The Problem Child' made his professional debut back in 2020 and has already defeated the likes of Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz and Ben Askren so far. His only defeat in the ring came on points against Tommy Fury last year. The 27-year-old comes into the clash off the back of a win over former UFC fighter Mike Perry in July.

Since the fight was rebooked, many within the boxing community have slammed the decision to go ahead with the event. Even Tyson's wife has warned the heavyweight legend that he doesn't need to fight Paul. In an interview with SPORTbible, Tyson said: "This fight is not going to change my life financially.

"If I did it for free, it's not going to change my life. My wife is constantly telling me, you do not need to do this fight. This is what I want to do, this is me. I'm seeking my glory."

Earlier this year, Paul boasted he will earn $40million (£31m) for fighting Tyson. When asked at a press conference if he brought 'Iron Mike' in to add "validity" to his boxing career, the young American said: "I didn't bring him to do s***; I'm here to make $40million and knock out a legend I don't give a f*** about anything else, he's the one who wanted it to be a pro fight and he's going to get his a** knocked out for real.

"You're going to see on his record; Jake Paul KOs Mike Tyson; I'm not here to do s*** except make a bag. Every time fighters sit across from me and it's 'YouTuber this and Disney kid that' and they end up on the canvas... this is going to be no different. I brought this deal to this old ass motherf*****, we signed the contract with Netflix and we brought him the deal. You're welcome my son."

The 27-year-old recently revealed that "bonuses" in his contract could 'boost both his and Tyson's earnings.' "There are definitely certain guaranteed figures and other certain built-in bonuses and stuff on top of sales – key performance indicators that trigger certain things," he said. "This is definitely my biggest payday, of all the fights for sure. It is definitely a healthy payday."
