Social welfare recipients are in line to receive two lump-sum payments next week to help ease the burden of the ongoing Cost of Living crisis.

These supports were introduced as part of Budget 2025 and are part of a total of ten lump sum payments that will be paid before Christmas.

There were four cost-of-living lump sum supports issued earlier this week - Double Child Benefit payment, Fuel Allowance Lump Sum Payment, Disability Support Payment and Working Family Payment.

It has been confirmed that two further lump-sum payments will be issued next week to assist families and individuals across the State with the Cost of Living. You can find the dates and details for the two payments below.

All the lump-sum payments are automatically paid - people do not need to apply for them.

Living Alone Allowance

From Monday (November 11), there will be a €200 lump sum payment to the almost 254,000 people in receipt of the Living Alone Allowance.

The Living Alone Allowance is an extra payment for people aged 66 or over in receipt of a social welfare payment (such as State Pension/Widow’s/ Widower’s or Surviving Civil Partner’s [Contributory] Pension) who are living alone.

You will also qualify if you are under 66, live alone and are getting:

  • Disability Allowance
  • Invalidity Pension
  • Incapacity Supplement
  • Blind Pension

Carer’s Support Payment

A €400 Carer’s Support Payment will be provided to the country’s carers during the week commencing Monday, November 11.

The Carer’s Support Grant is paid to carers once a year by the Department of Social Protection (DSP). It used to be called the Respite Care Grant.

The Carer’s Support Grant is paid automatically to people getting:

  • Carer’s Allowance (both full rate and half-rate)
  • Carer’s Benefit
  • Domiciliary Care Allowance.

The Carer’s Support Grant is not a means-tested payment.

Recipients of the lump-sum payment can use the grant in whatever way you like. They can use it to pay for respite care, but you don't have to.

Only one Carer’s Support Grant can be paid for each person getting care. If you are caring for more than one person, a grant is paid for each person you care for.

It was announced in Budget 2025 that the Carer’s Support Grant will increase by €150 from €1,850 to €2,000 in June 2025.

Future social welfare lump-sum payments

A once-off payment of €100 for each child in respect of whom a Child Support Payment (formerly Increase for a Qualified Child) is in payment will be issued in respect to 340,000 children in the week commencing Monday November 25.

There are certain criteria to qualify for the extra payment. To get it, your child:

  • Must live with you
  • Meet the age requirement for that particular payment
  • Be resident in Ireland
  • Not be in legal custody

You can still qualify if your child has a job and is earning their own money, and it can also be paid for foster children. But if your child is in receipt of social welfare themselves, you aren’t eligible.

Meanwhile the Christmas Bonus Double Payment will be paid to 1.4 million recipients in the week commencing Monday December 2. The Christmas Bonus will only be paid to you if you have been getting an eligible payment for at least 12 months

And the final of two Double Child Benefit Payments will be issued to 678,000 families in respect of over 1.2 million children on Tuesday, December 3.

Child Benefit is a monthly payment to the parents or guardians of children under 16. The Department of Social Protection pays Child Benefit to the child’s mother or stepmother. However, if you are the child’s father or stepfather, you can get the payment if the child does not live with their mother or stepmother.
