'I've had better' - RTE's Jennifer Zamparelli spills on kissing Australian heartthrob Jason Donovan
Jason starred in drag musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert in 2013.
Jennifer Zamparelli has admitted she’s “had better” while opening up about kissing Australian heartthrob Jason Donovan. In 2013, the Dubliner starred in the drag musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert alongside the Neighbours star.
Jennifer, who was working on Republic of Telly at the time, opened up about what it was like kissing Donovan on stage for two weeks.
Speaking at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin at their 2025 season launch, Jennifer said: “I made my debut on the stage here with Jason Donovan in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. I had to fly to London to audition. I remember walking into Pineapple Dance Studios thinking this place is iconic and having to do a full audition for the role in Priscilla.
“I think they were making sure I wasn’t a total lunatic or a fanatic. It was a dream to do it. I go to do two weeks with the West End cast.”

Asked what it was like kissing Donovan, Jennifer said: “Jason is amazing. He’s not bad. I’ve had better. I can’t believe the stamina that man has because the show is all singing and all dancing. I don’t know how they did it. I only did two weeks.”
Jennifer said she wanted to audition for the role because her “first love is stage” – and it is how she met her now husband Lau.
“Because my first love is the stage, and I’ve always had a love for the stage. Sure that is how I met Lau. I directed a play. I had a theatre company in Bristol, and I directed him in a play. That’s how we met. That all got pushed to the side so when it came about, I absolutely went for it. But it was just phenomenal what they do. I’m just in awe of them. To do something like this and to be asked to host the 2025 launch is great.”
On Wednesday, the Bord Gais Energy Theatre announced a host of new shows coming to Dublin next year including Melissa Hamilton’s Ballet Stars Gala (17 -18 September).
Fans of celebrated productions can also look forward to the electrifying return of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake from May 20-24, Paw Patrol September 13 and 14, Kinky Boots from July 15 to 19 and the cult favourite Little Shop of Horrors from July 25 to August 9.
And in a major debut, the Irish National Dance Company LUAIL will present Chora on May 13, a groundbreaking new work that promises to redefine contemporary Irish dance.
