Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley makes Richie Towell decision following disciplinary issue
Shamrock Rovers are back in Europa Conference League action on Thursday
Richie Towell won’t play for Shamrock Rovers in the rest of their European campaign. Hoops boss Stephen Bradley confirmed the development this evening, following a disciplinary issue.
Towell publicly vented his frustration after failing to get on in the 2-0 league win over Shelbourne at Tallaght Stadium on October 6, and stormed down the tunnel. He hasn’t played since and is not even training with the first-team squad, having last featured off the bench in the European draw with APOEL on October 3.

Rovers play Welsh side The New Saints in Tallaght tomorrow and also have Europa Conference League games against Rapid Vienna, Boruc and Chelsea to come. And quizzed on whether Towell would be involved in any of them, Rovers boss Bradley said tonight: “No, Richie won’t be involved in any of the games coming up.”
Bradley confirmed that Towell, 33, is not currently training with the first team squad, leaving questions over his future as he’s out of contract going into next season.
Asked if that meant he won’t play for the club again, Bradley said: “I haven’t said that, I’ve said we’ll talk about Richie at the end of the year. I’ll speak about Richie at the end of the season when we’re finished but right now, tomorrow we have a massive game, a massive game for the team.”
Striker Marc McNulty is not registered for the league phase in Europe so won’t be involved against TNS, but can be registered if the Hoops make the knockouts. Injured pair Danny Mandroiu and Sean Kavanagh will miss tomorrow’s game. Sean Hoare is a doubt and Rory Gaffney won’t play again this year after his long layoff.

Bradley said: “Rory has been ringing me non stop the last few weeks asking if he could try to make a push to be involved. He’s been running recently. But the plan with Rory has always been for quite some time to get him ready for next year, pre-season. For us it’s always been about next year and getting him right for pre-season. So that will stay the same.”
Shamrock Rovers are expecting a crowd in the region of 6,500 for the TNS game, which kicks off at the earlier time of 5.45pm.
