James Keddy calls time on stay

James Keddy has stepped down as Wexford FC manager, describing his two-year spell as an ‘‘unforgettable experience”’.

Keddy led the First Division side to the FAI Cup semi-final this season, before losing a 3-2 thriller away to Drogheda United. And Wexford also made the First Division playoffs this year, but lost to Athlone Town in a two-legged semi-final.

Keddy said today: “I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to every one of our fans for the incredible support you've shown over the past two seasons. Your energy, commitment, and belief in this team have given both myself and the club memories to be cherished.

"Reflecting on these past two years, I’m immensely proud of how much our young players have grown, both on and off the pitch. We have the second youngest squad in the LOI and to qualify for the playoffs and reach the FAI Cup semi-final with limited resources is a real testament of the hard work this group has put in over the past 2 years.”

Keddy, who won leagues with Drogheda United, Shelbourne and Derry City as a player, also thanked his backroom staff and added: “My time with Wexford FC has been an unforgettable experience.

“Yes, we had some ups and downs but I’m a great believer that in times of adversity there is real learning, and I always knew this group would excel. I’ve witnessed real growth in this team, and I’m incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. I want to wish the incoming manager and staff every success for the season ahead. They are inheriting a talented and committed squad.”
