November 5, 2024 is finally here. Millions of Americans are set to play their part in electing the 47th President of the United States of America - an outcome that will be felt far beyond the shores of the US.

Pollsters say the race to the White House between incumbent vice-president, Kamala Harris (Democrat) and former President, Donald Trump (Republican) is too close to call.

Trump, 78, is the slight favourite with most bookmakers however at this stage many experts say it could go either way. Harris, 60, has gathered momentum in the last few days and spectacularly, she has been tipped to win the state of Iowa - a state which was not considered to be in the balance and one which Donald Trump won comfortable in 2016 and 2020 respectively.

Trump has run on a message of 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA). He has vowed to close the US borders, clampdown on illegal migration and deport millions of illegal migrants from the USA should he win back power.

Harris has vowed to protect the abortion rights of women and has set out a plan to bring down inflation and lower food and fuel costs for Americans.

It's impossible to predict when the winner will be declared as it could take days or it could happen within hours of polls closing on Tuesday. One thing is for sure, as it unfolds, it will be eventful and will almost certainly involve legal challenges and lawyers.

Vice President Kamala Harris has changed her party's fortunes in the polls after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and there are several reasons why the Democrats should feel bullish about their chances.

After announcing her intention to run as the Democrat's candidate and securing the nomination, huge amounts of funding have poured into the party's war chest.

Surprising celebrities supporting Donald Trump - Piers Morgan to Mel Gibson

Americans are going to the polls tomorrow to elect their next president - and several celebrities have come out to support either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris.

Democrats have long enjoyed a celebrity advantage over Republicans, which has grown during Trump's rise in politics. But despite the advantage, celebrity backing is not always enough, as shown during Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign, as she was supported by the likes of LeBron James, Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Bruce Springsteen but was still defeated by Trump.

When US election results are expected

America is now just hours away from selecting its next President. The race for the White House is currently too close to call, with polls showing Kamala Harris and Donald Trump locked in a dead heat.

The result will come down to a handful of "swing states" - but in each of those, the Democratic and Republican nominees are still polling within a nail-biting 2.5 points of each other.
