Former Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan is hoping to make a TV comeback as he revealed he is set to create his first TV series - months after announcing his retirement.

The Dubliner parted ways with Mrs Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll in 2017 and has since had a stint on Fair City as well as Dancing With The Stars.

Rory announced his retirement earlier this year – but has now revealed he is working on his own TV series, which he says, has had several TV offers already.

The 65-year-old told us: “I’m writing a TV series that some people are interested in. That’s it really. I’m tapping away at it. It gives me something to do.”

The series will be based on snippets from his autobiography, Mrs Cowan’s Boy, which he released in 2019. Rory said he hopes to entertain audiences with funny stories growing up in the 70s and mid-80s during the gay scene.

Speaking exclusively to us, Rory previously said: “I’m talking about the gay scenes in Dublin in the 70s and 80s when there was no protection, no rights. We were criminalised anyway but at the same time it was a great scene.”

Opening up about retirement, Rory said he likes having “nothing to do”. He told us: “Everything is good. I’m back in Fair City next week. I’ve a few more weeks this year.

“I’m enjoying doing nothing at the moment. I like having nothing to do. At this rate, I get up in the morning and think ‘what do I want to do?’ and I say ‘ah I’ll stay in bed for another hour.

“I’m loving it but I might get bored with it in the New Year but at the moment I’m enjoying myself,” he added.
