A woman has been praised for teaching her friends a valuable lesson by 'spiking' their drinks. As she urges party-goers to keep an eye on their drinks at all times, she highlights just how easy it is to slip something into someone's drink.

In a TikTok video, Shirah Benarde reminds people to stay vigilant not only when drinking in a club, bar, or restaurant but also when at private parties. She said: "This is so important to remember. Do not let your guard down even at a private party."

In the clip, Shirah can be seen dropping gummy sweets into her friend's drinks so they can visually see they have been 'spiked'. Throughout the video, she drops the sweets into more than 10 of her friends' cups - trying different tactics to show just how easy it is.

Shirah, who created the brand NightCap in 2019 as a way to help prevent drink spiking, adds: "It doesn't matter if you're drinking out of a can or a bottle. Always watch the bartender make your drink. Order an angel shot if you feel uncomfortable, and never leave your drink unattended with or without a NightCap." Commenting on her clip, one user said: "Honestly this is a fun way to teach your friends to pay attention to their drinks."

Another user added: "Love this! people think it's really difficult to do!" A third user said: "I've had this happen to me. I blacked out and almost hurt someone really bad. I came to 18 hours later not having a single memory of what happened only people telling me what I did."

One more user added: "That is terrifying seeing it in real-time." A final user said: "I tell my kids this (they're in high school now so i worry) I always kept my hand over the top of my drinks clubs in 2007/2008 were wild."

UK police's statement against spiking reads: "Everyone should feel safe to enjoy themselves without worrying about being spiked. However, there are steps you can take to help reduce the risk of spiking, whilst keeping yourself and others safe.

"Watch out for your friends and look after each other. Never leave your drink unattended. Be cautious if you are bought or given a drink – consider only accepting drinks from people you know and trust. Be wary if people are reaching over your drinks. Alert staff immediately if you see anyone acting suspiciously around your or someone else's drink. If you or a friend feel unwell, seek help from staff or call an ambulance immediately."
