Patrick Mahomes II and Tyreek Hill were both left stunned by new NFL star Xavier Worthy's speed at the annual Combine - where he ran a 40-yard dash faster than Usain Bolt.

The new Kansas City Chiefs recruit ran a 4.21 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, beating Bolt's time of 4.22 seconds, and both Hill and Mahomes ' times of 4.29 and 4.80 respectively. At the time of the annual event in the summer, the Chiefs quarterback and former Chiefs receiver shared their shock on social media at Worthy's speed, with Mahomes writing: "4.25...crazyyyyy."

This tweet was before Worthy's time was corrected to represent his true dash, showcasing just how quick the rookie receiver is. Hill was also in awe, as the speedy skills player - who now plays for the Miami Dolphins - wrote: "4.2 is crazy sheesh."

Despite Worthy beating Hill at the 40-yard dash, Hill currently has an impressive 100m time of just 10.19 seconds - just over half a second off of world record holder Bolt's time of 9.58 seconds. In fact, Worthy even bested Bolt in the 40-yard dash time, with the Jamaican sprinter previously tying the NFL record with 4.22 seconds.

However, American sprinter and Olympic medallist Noah Lyle has defended Bolt's speed against Worthy, noting that the Jamaican didn't have football boots, proper running gear or any warm up to boost his time. Writing on X, Lyle said: "Do we have to show the video of him running that time with jeans, no cleats, and no warming up. Just to remind y’all."

Worthy isn't the only one to receive some bite from Lyle, as Hill previously criticised the sprinter for his lacklustre performance at the men's 200m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics - where Lyle came third. The athlete did confirm that he had been suffering from COVID-19 at the time, which impacted his performance - but Hill was having none of it as he called the track star out for a race on social media.

Worthy and Mahomes are set to develop quite the partnership at the Chiefs

Speaking on the "Up and Adams Show" with Kay Adams, Hill - aptly nicknamed 'Cheetah' for his speed on the field - said: "Noah Lyles can't say nothing after what just happened to him. He wants to come out and pretend that he's sick... Just speaking to what you know about, and that's track."

The Dolphins receiver was adamant of his own capabilities versus Lyle, as he added: "I would beat Noah Lyles. When I beat him, I'll put on a COVID mask and let him know I mean business."

However, the American track athlete didn't exactly take the threat seriously, as he quipped: "What's that guy? What's the cheetah guy from football? I can't remember his name."

Usain Bolt is the fastest man of all time

Meanwhile, Worthy is now part of Mahomes' star-studded offence at the Chiefs, and will be expected to step up in the absence of Rashee Rice, who is likely out for the season with a severe knee injury. But the two-time SuperBowl quarterback seems to be feeling just fine with Worthy as an option out wide, claiming the star is much more than just his speed.

Speaking after the Chiefs had signed the California-born star to their roster, Mahomes said: "Just route running [and] a guy that played physical, too. For him to not weigh a ton, he plays hard, he plays through stuff. He goes out there and competes, and then the speed, obviously it opens up the field, but he's not just a fast receiver.

"He plays hard, plays fast and you want those types of guys on your football team."
