Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn clash again with Neymar caught up in the chaos
Chris Eubank Jr made light work of stopping Kamil Szeremeta in Riyadh, but the real drama came after the bell as long-time rival Conor Benn made his way into the ring
Chris Eubank Jr was involved in another clash with Conor Benn after his rival stormed the ring following the Brighton boxer’s win over Kamil Szeremeta.
The pair went head to head TWICE after Eubank made light work of stopping Szeremeta with a seventh-round stoppage. Benn stormed the ring even before the result was announced here in Riyadh and went for Eubank Jr as he was celebrating his victory.
Security were forced to step in and calm the situation as the pair exchanged verbal blows in ugly scenes. It followed their clash at the Hilton on hotel on Friday after Eubank Jr had weighed in for this fight.
But the drama wasn’t finished there as the pair were involved in another fracas after the result was announced. Benn stayed in the ring as Eubank Jr was being interviewed and then they started shouting abuse at each other.
Neymar, the Brazil football star and friend of Eubank Jr, also got in the ring to get close up to the action in what became a pantomime scene. Eubank Jr, 35, said: “Speaking of easy ones. This is the fight everyone wants to see. Sign the contract. There’s nothing to fear here.”
Benn hit back and said: “After that performance? I can beat him on my worst days.”
The pair then went head-to-head before security stepped in again. It was a nonsense few minutes that were not really needed.
This event is being run under British Boxing Board of Control rules and Benn is currently without a licence so should not have been allowed to step inside the ropes.
Welterweight Benn is currently temporarily suspended by UK Anti-Doping and the British Boxing Board of Control pending investigations into two adverse analytical findings in drug tests in 2022.
The second of which forced the cancellation of an October 2022 clash with Eubank Jr in London. Benn was found to have fertility drug clomiphene in his samples, a substance which also has performance-enhancing benefits.
The British boxer did have his suspension lifted but it was reinstated after an appeal by UKAD and the BBBofC. His case has yet to be heard and he has not been served with a doping ban.
But the matter would need to be resolved before the BBBofC would consider reinstating his licence for him to fight Eubank Jr. There has been speculation that the pair could face each other with Eubank Jr keen on the bout despite the history.
