Cork to Dublin service stopped

A Cork to Dublin train was delayed for more than one hour on Thursday following two massive disruptions to the services, including one caused by a 'drunk and aggressive' passenger that was removed by Gardaí.

The 4:25pm Cork to Heuston service was halted at Thurles just before 6pm on Thursday after one passenger on board the train suddenly fell ill.

Irish Rail staff sprung into action to help the person, alerting emergency services to the scene, with the train delayed for 45 minutes as paramedics attended to remove the passenger by ambulance.

The train then resumed its journey shortly before 7pm but was again halted less than a half hour later due to "disruptive behaviour" on board.

A spokesperson for Irish Rail confirmed to CorkBeo that one male passenger, believed to have been intoxicated, was acting abusive and aggressively towards train security.

For the safety of all passengers on board the train, the service was stopped for 20 minutes as staff waited for Gardaí to arrive. Officers reportedly talked to the passenger before being forced to eventually remove him.

The 4:25pm service finally arrived at Heuston Station at approximately 8:10pm on Thursday evening after being delayed for more than one hour, with the two incidents also causing a further 15-minute delay for the 5:25pm Cork to Heuston service.
