DUP laughs as Fianna Fail caug

The North’s hardline unionists the DUP laughed off revelations that self-styled Republican party Fianna Fail is using a copycat slogan on campaign posters.

Spin doctors at Fianna Fail decided to use the same Moving Forward Together policy slogan that the DUP has used for years. The Irish Mirror asked Fianna Fail about the duplication, while the DUP told us that “we don’t get terribly excited” by slogan mirroring.

Former Tory party leader Theresa May had a similar slogan Forward Together during her time at the helm of the Conservatives.

Fianna Fail claimed "there is nothing unexpected" about its new posters of party leader Micheal Martin alongside the slogan Moving Forward Together.

A party spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "There is nothing unexpected. It has been standard practice for many decades for all political parties to be well advanced with all aspects of their preparations six months out from an election.

"Fianna Fail is no different. It is widely known and clear that all parties are already well into their preparations for the next general election.”

Political analysts have been assessing if a snap general election may be called imminently after the posters were spotted at Park West Enterprise Centre in Dublin.

Mr Martin, who is Tanaiste and Foreign Affairs Minister, stated last Thursday that discussions have not taken place about an early election.

He said: “At the start of the Government and when key changes happened, the three-party leaders reaffirmed each of our commitment to a process for completing our mandate. I can tell you equally, clearly that nothing has changed. There have been no discussions about finishing our mandate early.”

A DUP spokesperson said: “There are good words for slogans and there are only so many ways you can wrap them up. In 2005, we had a slogan Leadership That’s Working and we later found out that it had been used previously by a politician in the US.

“Ever since then, it’s been realised that when someone thinks that someone else is using your slogan, we don’t get terribly excited.”
