Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton left his wife over £600,000 in his will after his death.

The Red Devils great passed away last October. Tributes poured in following the news of his death. Charlton left behind his beloved wife Lady Norma, while he was also survived by daughters and grandchildren. Ahead of his funeral, Lady Norma wrote a touching message to her husband.

She left a short note on a piece of card placed alongside flowers. It read: “Dearest Bobby, Forever in my thoughts, Forever in my heart, All my love as always, Norma.”

And it appears that Charlton has ensured his long-term partner will remain looked after. Probate documents signed off by a Manchester court show that Charlton had an estate worth around £652,000, reduced to £631,000 after personal debts and funeral costs were settled, that he left to Lady Norma.

As revealed by The Sun Daughters Suzanne and Andrea were appointed as trustees, alongside solicitor Andrew Kay. The will - that was signed in 2011 - dictated that the sole benefit would have been Lady Norma so long as she survived him.

The pair apparently met at a Manchester ice rink and were married in 1961. They raised two daughters. One of Charlton’s grandson’s, Robert, was named after his famous Grandad.

Red Devils icons paid tribute after Charlton’s death and sent their best wishes to Lady Norma.

Speaking at the time, David Beckham said: “It all began with Sir Bobby. Sir Bobby was the reason I had the opportunity to play for Manchester United … I will be forever grateful to a man I was named after, someone I looked up to and was a hero to many around the world not just in Manchester and our country where he won the World Cup in 1966…

“A true gentleman, family man and truly a national hero… Today isn’t just a sad day for Manchester United & England, it’s a sad day for football and everything that Sir Bobby represented. Our thoughts go out to Lady Norma, their daughters and grandchildren. Rest in Peace Sir Bobby. Today our hearts are heavy.”

Steve Bruce added: “Everywhere we went with Manchester United, the first person anyone would ask about is: how is Sir Bobby Charlton? Anywhere in the world. He was a great footballer and a great man and my thoughts and sympathies are with Lady Norma and of course his family too.”
