A woman has been praised for sharing how to easily carve a pumpkin to make gutting and lighting it so much easier.

In a TikTok video, user @themilso is seen cutting a pumpkin from the bottom rather than the top, saying she not only does this to keep the top intact but to make lighting it easier and safer.

Once it's cut open, she scoops the seeds out and gets to work carving a face. She then leaves it to dry out before adding a candle inside - which she is able to place on the bottom part before sliding the rest of the pumpkin back on top.

This way, she avoids having to drop a candle through the small opening from the top, risking it falling over inside the pumpkin and burning her hand when trying to pick it back up. Commenting on her video, one user said: "We've always done it this way! So easy to just sit in on your candle!"

Another user added: "Cleaning takes a quarter of the time." A third user said: "I’ve always done them this way makes lighting them easier and top doesn’t cave in with rot." One more user said: "I'm 47 and I've always done it this way."

Another user said: "Just did mine this way. So much easier." In agreement, one more said: "This really just makes so much more sense!" However, some remain unconvinced by the tactic, claiming it made their pumpkins rot much faster than usual.

One user said: "I can't do that bugs will be eating it and you can't move the pumpkin without the bottom coming off." Another user said: "We tried that this year and they didn’t even last a week and got so mouldy."
