Michael Schumacher's brother Ralf Schumacher has previously opened up about his brother's devastating health battle, summing up his own feelings in four heartbreaking words.

Ever since his nightmare ski accident in the French Alps, the Schumacher family has worked hard to protect Michael in the face of keen public interest. Only a select handful of loved ones have been permitted to visit the injured F1 star over the years, and the particulars of his condition have been kept under wraps.

In recent times however, the Schumachers appear to have lowered their fiercely guarded walls a little, with Michael, 55, reportedly attending the wedding of his daughter Gina, alongside his devoted wife Corinna.

Ralf, 49, was also in attendance at Gina's Majorcan nuptials, suggesting an easing of family tensions following a painful estrangement.

A devastating accident has taken a toll on the family

Ralf has previously opened up about his sadness at having lost contact with Corinna and Michael in the aftermath of the traumatic accident, reflecting, 'Sometimes life isn't fair'.

Speaking with German magazine Bunte, retired F1 star Ralf, shared: "Unfortunately, sometimes life isn't fair. We have to accept it. When I see his children Gina-Maria and Mick, my heart smiles. If someone in the family is looking for my advice, I'm there. They go their own way."

He confessed: "I miss the Michael of the old days. Life is unfair from time to time. Michael was very lucky throughout his life. But then there was this tragic accident. Michael wasn't only my brother. When we were kids, he was also my coach and mentor. He taught me literally everything about kart racing."

Growing up in the West German town of Hürth, Michael and Ralf shared a passion motorsports from a young age, making good use of their parents' go-kart track as budding speed enthusiasts. The talented brothers both enjoyed incredible careers on the racing track, becoming the first, and currently only, siblings to each win Formula One races. They are also became first siblings to finish in first and second place in the same race.

It would now appear that there is some of that old closeness once more, with Ralf having reportedly attended his niece's recent wedding despite being previously estranged, accompanied by his new partner Etienne Bousquet-Cassagne.

The Daily Mail reports that there had been rumoured concerns about Ralf's ex-wife Cora, who the family feared had the 'potential to be indiscreet'. Thankfully, those close to Michael reportedly 'have no concerns' about Ralf and French business manager Etienne, who went public with their relationship over the summer.

Gina's wedding marked Michael's very first public appearance since 2013, the year when his life changed forever. While ski-ing off-piste, the legendary racing car driver struck his head against a boulder. Although Michael's helmet took the brunt of the blow, his head injury was severe, and it is understood that he is now a very different man to the fearless sports star who took the racing world by storm.

Wife Corinna, who rarely opens up about Michael's condition, revealed that she 'misses Michael every day' in a heartrending segment of the 2021 Netflix documentary, Schumacher. She shared: "We're together. We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he's comfortable. And to simply make him feel our family, our bond.

"And no matter what, I will do everything I can. We all will. We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does. And we are getting on with our lives."
