Fans have desperately waited to find out the future of James Bond, with a whole new cast expected to make their debut.

Film makers are yet to confirm who will be taking over the role of 007 after Daniel Craig stepped back from the iconic character. The rumour mill has been running hot with Aaron Taylor-Johnson being the frontrunner for the role, but whispers also abound regarding other potentials, including 'Slow Horses' star Jack Lowden and James Norton.

Talk has also turned to who could star as the next Bond Girl alongside the leading actor. Bookies have predicted actress Eve Hewson stands at a good chance at securing the role thanks to her success in Netflix series the Perfect Couple. She recently impressed fans by playing Amelia Sacks in the streaming platform mystery series.

The actress was also a hit in black comedy series Bad Sisters alongside the likes of Sharon Horgan and Anne-Marie Duff. Eve also has a very famous dad who is none other than U2 legend Bono. Gambling.com has Eve in the lead to become the next Bond Girl with odds of 6/4.

She is just ahead of actress Sydney Sweeney, with the Euphoria star ranking at 13/8 after months of speculation. However, there is also competition for the role as Duchess actress Charlotte Kirk sits at 7/4. Charlotte has even responded to the rumours following a leaked casting call suggesting she was in the running.

"I am sworn to secrecy, I have to be very careful what I say," she told the Sunday Express. "I really like your readers, but I don’t want to have to kill anyone! Nothing is a hundred per cent, but it will just be an honour." Stars to have already held the Bond Girls position include Halle Berry, Michelle Yeoh, Ursula Andress and Lea Seydoux.

Many actresses have seen their name added to the speculation list, including Michelle Keegan. The former Coronation Street star became a favourite when her Netflix series Fool Me Once hit screens. Jodie Corner, Kaya Scodelario, Molly Gordon and Grace Van Dien have also had their names thrown into the mix.

Idris Elba became one of the first names rumoured to play Bond when Daniel Craig stepped down in 2021. Daniel played the secret agent - who was created by late author Ian Fleming - in five films over a 15 year period but he won't be returning as the character in the future.

Franchise producer Barbara Broccoli, 61 - who co-owns Eon Productions - suggested that Idris' name had come up in conversations about Daniel's replacement. However, Idris stated that he's keen to continue playing DCI John Luther instead. "It is one of the biggest compliments I can ever get as an actor," he said on Heart Breakfast show. "You know, the role of Bond is such a coveted role and to be considered for it is amazing."

Idris continued: "But honestly, I always secretly felt that Luther is my answer to that. It's not as espionage it's not you know, suave, it's you know, a relatable guy that's going to catch bad guys that's all I'm you know, wanting to do really".
