Actor Jay Duffy has paid a heartfelt tribute to his famous dad, Keith, as he hit a milestone birthday.

The Boyzlife star turned 50 this week, and Jay penned a message to his "best mate".

He took to Instagram to share a photo of the two together now, along with a throwback from when Jay was a baby.

Captioning the snaps, Jay wrote: "My dad is 50 today.

“I don’t know if it’s you who looks young or my few whiskers making me look old but here’s to more years of you getting away with calling yourself my brother to strangers, more years of health and happiness and more years of being best mates.

"Thank you for being you and setting the standard of fatherhood every day. Im proud to be your son/brother.

"I love ya. Happy birthday to you."

The comments were flooded with birthday wishes for Keith, as one person wrote: "Haha sounds like you've got a fantastic relationship with your dad jay happy 50th birthday Keith have a fab day can't believe he's 50."

"Lovely words @jayduffy happy 50th birthday @officialkeithduffy," wrote another.

The Boyzlife social media also paid tribute to Keith today, writing: "50 years of amazing memories and countless laughs. Here's to you, Keith! Cheers to many more to come. Happy birthday."

Keith and Jay are very close, with Keith telling RSVP Live earlier this year that he would love to share the stage with his son someday.

"I'd love to," he said. "There's a show I love called Howie the Rookie, it's an old show that was done years and years ago. It's two guys telling the same story from different perspectives. One guy does an hour monologue and then he's finished, then the older guy comes out and does an hour monologue and then he's finished. It's a superbly intelligently written play for an older and a younger character. I've always kind of dreamt of the idea of doing that with Jay."
