Darren Gleeson has been ratified as the new Laois senior hurling manager.

The former Tipperary All-Ireland winner recently left Antrim after six seasons in charge.

Gleeson helped Antrim climb up through the ranks. They landed two McDonagh Cups on his watch and next year will spend a fifth consecutive season in Division 1 after winning Division 2a in 2020.

On Gleeson’s watch the Saffrons returned to the Leinster Championship in 2023 and will stay there in 2025.

They enjoyed some big championship results in Gleeson’s tenure including this year’s Leinster victory over Wexford at Corrigan Park, a draw with Dublin in 2023 and vital wins over Westmeath and Carlow.

Laois were beaten by Offaly in this year’s McDonagh Cup final, with William Maher resigning in the wake of that loss.

Earlier this year, Tipperary native Maher guided Laois back to Division 1b, in his second and final season with the county.
