Arsenal star Jurrien Timber joins forces with Man City rival after "dangerous" warning
Jurrien Timber is beginning to make a name for himself in North London after a false start at the Emirates Stadium due to a long-term injury but is determined not to suffer the same fate
Jurrien Timber has added an influential Arsenal voice to the threat of players going on strike over their “dangerous” workload.
The Gunners full-back, who missed nearly all of last season with a serious knee injury, agrees with Manchester City star Rodri’s warning that players are on the brink of industrial action overs the risk of burn-out. Timber is relishing Arsenal ’s home clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the swollen Champions League group stage on Tuesday.
But the £34 million defender is backing Rodri and Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker’s comments about the never-ending demands on elite players and he said: “I totally agree with them.
“It’s a big topic at the moment in dressing rooms, not only at City and Liverpool but also our dressing room. I didn’t play last season, so I’m just enjoying playing right now and you won’t hear me complaining, but I totally understand what they’re saying.
The Champions League group phase has been expanded from six games to eight, and Timber warned the extra matches risk more players suffering serious injuries.
He said: “I honestly think it’s a dangerous thing. Last week we played City and they played again two days later - that’s too much. The players are speaking right now and let their voices be heard. It doesn’t look like it’s getting any less (busy) at the moment.
“We’re just trying to be there every game to give our best, but it gets hard when the games keep coming and coming, especially in England without having a winter break, it’s really hard.”

Timber says Arsenal will target a top-eight finish in the new Champions League ‘Swiss model’ because it will save the playing an extras two games, and he admitted: “That would make a difference.
“You want to be in the top eight because you want the highest possible finish, but in this case it also makes a difference for your team in terms of resting.”
