Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has backed Roy Keane for a return to management.

The 44-year-old made over 230 appearances for the Red Devils from 1996 to 2011 and also admitted this week, he never thought Keane would be a pundit during his playing days.

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League odds, Brown said Keane could be successful if he makes a return to the dugout.

“I'm pretty sure I'd be strict as a manager because he knows what it takes to win,” he said.

“He's been a manager before and I'm sure he's learnt a few things as well along the way that can and can't work and how to keep the squad together.

“Ultimately, I think if he goes back into management now, I think he's got that experience and he'd be able to deal with it.

“I mean, look at what he did with Sunderland when he brought them into the Premier League. He was very good that season and was obviously doing something right.

“Ultimately, he fell out of love with managing a little bit but I think he'd be a brilliant appointment for a team to have. He can get the best out of players and he’d still be excellent at it.”

Also speaking on United’s form this season, Brown added: “For Manchester United, losing just before the international break can be the worst time because you want to get it out of your system, especially after such a big game like the Liverpool one.

“But the players can go away on international duty and focus on that when they get back, it can be tough waiting for that next game but if they return with focus they can put it behind them.

“From a United perspective, they won’t want to be dropping any more points this early in the season, they want to be up there contending.”
