Mick McCarthy is rumoured to be taking part in this year’s edition of popular TV show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The former Ireland player and manager has been out of a job since leaving as Blackpool coach last year but could be returning to our television screams in December.

The 24th series of the hit show is set to take place at the end of the year in Australia and McCarthy could join the likes of Jill Scott, Ian Wright, David Ginola, and Harry Redknapp in making the transition to the football pitch to the jungle.

Fans on X were more than entertained by the rumours with one commenting: “mick mccarthy on im a celeb would be pure cinema.

Another said: “Rumours are going round that Mick McCarthy will be going into the ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get me out of here’ jungle this year. I think I’ll be watching it this time”

While the news has not been confirmed, it seems Irish viewers would certainly be intrigued: “Mick McCarthy is apparently on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here this year. Superb news to end a Friday”

McCarthy was recently in the news when he recalled an encounter with Italy’s Toto Schillaci at Italia ‘90.

“I had a few run-ins with Toto Schillaci during the match. He had just exploded onto the scene at the World Cup, so it wasn’t as if I had a huge knowledge of him,” McCarthy said

“He gave me the old ‘thumb across the throat gesture’ and despite my lack of Italian, it was a sign that’s universally understood.

“He was a competitor and he didn’t mind the physical stuff. And he could play.

“I’ve a lot of respect for him – he made it a tough night for me. And he came up with a great finish for the winner.”
