Kate Abdo vs Katie Price tale

A boxing match between football presenter Kate Abdo and ex-glamour model Katie Price could be on the cards.

Abdo, who is known for her celebrated stint on CBS Sport's Champions League coverage with Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Theirry Henry, has been sharpening her fight skills for some time. Her new husband Malik Scott, a former boxer himself, has claimed that she is ready to step into the ring - but just needs an opponent.

The 43-year-old recently married Malik in California and the boxing coach has said that Abdo is eyeing up a spot on a Misfits Boxing undercard, the promotional company co-ran by YouTube star KSI. Malik revealed how Abdo was supposed to feature on a card for the company in August of this year, however the couple's marriage took precedence.

A fight has even been mooted for October and one name that is doing the rounds for an opponent is Katie Price - so, with a titanic battle potentially on the cards, what do we know about the pair?

Abdo was born in Manchester but later found fame in Germany and the US presenting football shows. She also enjoyed a stint on UK screens with Sky Sports where she hosted Pay Per View Boxing, European football and worked on Sky Sports News.

However it's her role as anchor for the Champions League coverage with the trio of Henry, Carragher and Richards that has sent the star viral on social media, on several occasions. While also a one-time host for Fox's Premier Boxing Champions, Abdo is absolutely no stranger to donning the gloves herself.

While the broadcaster looks like she has what it takes to go the distance, getting her into the ring is a different matter altogether however. This is maninly due to her hectic schedule according to her husband.

"We’re still working on that (arranging a fight). It was supposed to be in August, but that was our wedding month," Malik said to Genting Casino. "We had too much going on with planning and navigating our schedules. Even when Kate’s not working, she’s always setting up her next venture, so she really never has downtime."

Abdo spars often with Malik and has even showcased her rapid jabs and nifty footwork on her instagram account. Malik has also disclosed that Abdo is eager to step into the ring for a competitive bout, and despite harbouring a natural concern for his wife, he believes it's a step they can make together.

"The future’s bright for that," Malik said. "I’m in contact with the right people. Kate trains three to four times a week, so we’ll see. It depends on the schedule and how Kate feels.

"We’ve taught her to do things with more intent. Watching her shadow box now is impressive—she's not just throwing punches, she’s setting things up like there’s an opponent in front of her.

"She’s more eager for it than I am. She’s got that competitive nature, and she’s confident because she’s getting trained by one of the best in the sport. Plus, she has me whenever she needs advice or guidance. Our training is very drilled, basic, and technical.

"Watching her fight will be the toughest part for me. I’m training her, and then I have to watch her compete. It’s not like watching her swim or play tennis—she’s actually going into a fight. That’s a hurdle I’ll have to get over. But the most important thing is that this is another journey we’re taking together."

"The most important thing is that Kate and I are entertained by this idea. It's another walk, another journey for us to do something together. That's motivation enough for us."

Katie Price

One of the most famous faces in British tabloid newspapers throughout the early noughties, Price found fame as the household name known as 'Jordan'. After a stint as a page 3 model, Price went on to dip her toe in a few ventures over the years and is known for her marriage to ex-husband, singer Peter Andre.

Whether it was authoring bestselling books, releasing her own clothing line or appearing on numerous TV shows, Price is no stranger to trying something new, and the mother-of-five is now looking to try her hand on the celebrity boxing circuit. Back in March of this year, it was revealed that Price had agreed to fight on a Misfits boxing card against a star from reality TV show Jersey Shore - meaning any fight against Abdo may have to wait.

With her supposed American opponent coming in around 20 years younger than Price, the former winner of Celebrity Big Brother has admitted that she's already got her losing speech prepared. Price also confirmed that she's passed all the necessary medical checks for the fight, a factor that bodes well for any proposed showdown with Abdo.

"I'm hoping to do this Misfits boxing fight. I've just had all my brain scans, blood tests, and all my things done, so... I think they want me to fight an American girl from Jersey Shore," Price said on the Anything Goes podcast.

"I've already got my saying if I lose, my saying would be, 'Well, I should hope you win, I'm f***ing 46 with five kids. How old are you in your twenties? I should hope you f***ing have won'. That's if I lose."

Katie Price could fight Kate Abdo

With a bout suggested to take place in Qatar, rumours are that the fight would have to make headlines. However Malik has claimed that Abdo's burgeoning fame is such that she would have to fight someone on an equal level of status - and he has admitted he doesn't know who Price even is, potentially thowing a spanner into the works of any clash between the pair.

"I heard Misfits have something big coming up in Qatar, so that may be an interesting venue," Malik said. "As far as the opponent, it has to be somebody with a market and following. My wife has a market, so it wouldn't make sense for her to fight a random person.

"The market has to be at the same level or higher. I don't know any names right now. I heard Katie Price being talked about, but I’m not sure who she is. I’d want someone with a high market or wide following. I don't know names, but if it's worth it, we're interested."
